Application of HumiSeal®UV500
HumiSeal® UV500 is a versatile, UV-curable conformal coating that can be applied to a variety of substrates. It can be effectively applied to both cleaned substrates and those assembled with low residue, "no clean" materials. It is important to conduct adequate testing to confirm compatibility between the coating and specific assembly materials, process conditions, and cleanliness levels. For further guidance, please contact HumiSeal®.
Spraying
HumiSeal® UV500 can be applied using standard selective coating equipment or conventional hand spray equipment. The air source for spraying should be dry (a dry inert gas like nitrogen or argon is highly recommended) to prevent premature curing of the secondary cure mechanism. Adequate ventilation should be ensured during spraying to carry away vapor and mist from the operator.
Brushing
HumiSeal® UV500 may be brushed on for rework or touch-ups only. The brush should be cleaned with solvent immediately after use.
Curing
HumiSeal® UV500 is a highly crosslinked coating. To achieve maximum crosslinking, the product must be exposed to the correct UV spectral output. HumiSeal® has modeled the performance of UV500 using Arc and Microwave-based UV curing equipment. The required dosage and irradiance values necessary to make HumiSeal® UV500 tack-free after UV exposure vary, and these should be followed according to the provided guidelines. Cure recommendations may evolve as curing technology advances.
Clean Up
Non-alcohol-based solvents should be used to clean equipment and uncured HumiSeal® UV500. We recommend using HumiSeal® Thinner 521 or Thinner 521EU for cleaning purposes.
Rework
Given its high crosslinking, HumiSeal® UV500's cured film is highly resistant to environmental and chemical factors, making it more difficult to remove than traditional coatings. Suitable rework methods include thermal displacement and mechanical abrasion. For full cure removal, HumiSeal® Stripper 1072 and 1100 can be effectively used.
Storage
HumiSeal® UV500 is photosensitive and should not be exposed to direct sunlight or full-spectrum fluorescent lighting. It should be stored in a cool environment (below 20°C) to maximize its shelf life. Allow the product to equilibrate for 24 hours at room temperature before use. Since it is moisture-curing, containers must be protected from moisture. Partial containers should be purged with a dry inert gas such as dry air, nitrogen, or argon before resealing to prevent premature polymerization.
Caution
Ensure that the application of HumiSeal® Conformal Coatings follows local and national health and safety regulations. Always use the coating in well-ventilated areas to avoid inhalation of vapors or spray, and avoid contact with skin and eyes. Be sure to consult the SDS prior to use.
