Application of HumiSeal® 1A20R
For successful application of a conformal coating, ensuring the cleanliness of the substrate is critical. Surfaces should be free moisture, dirt, wax, grease, and other contaminants, as ionic or organic residues could become trapped beneath the coating, leading to adhesion or electrical issues. The best long-term reliability of a coated printed circuit assembly is achieved when the conformal coating is applied to a clean, dry substrate. While applying conformal coatings over no-clean flux is common practice, it is essential for users to conduct thorough testing to confirm the compatibility of the coating with their specific materials, processes, and cleanliness levels. For more information, please contact HumiSeal.
HumiSeal® 1A20R can be applied using various methods; however, it should be applied in environments with a relative humidity of 60% or less to prevent premature curing that can cause bubbles in the dried film.
Dipping
Depending on component complexity, density, and configuration, you may need to reduce the viscosity of HumiSeal® 1A20R with HumiSeal® Thinner 521 or 521EU to achieve a uniform film. After determining the optimal viscosity, maintain a controlled rate of immersion and withdrawal (5-15 cm/min) for consistent coating. As solvent evaporates, viscosity will increase, so add small amounts of HumiSeal® Thinner 521 or 521EU to maintain consistency. Regularly check viscosity in the dip tank using devices like a Zahn or Ford viscosity cup.
Spraying
HumiSeal® 1A20R is compatible with conventional spraying equipment. Ensure adequate ventilation to carry away vapors and mist. To achieve a uniform spray pattern and avoid pinholes, add HumiSeal® Thinner 521 or 521EU. Adjust the thinner and spray pressure based on the equipment and technique used. The recommended ratio of HumiSeal® 1A20R to HumiSeal® Thinner 521 or 521EU is 5:2 by volume, but this ratio may be adjusted to suit the desired coating.
Brushing
HumiSeal® 1A20R can also be brushed on with a small amount of HumiSeal® Thinner 521 or 521EU. The uniformity of the film will depend on the component density and the operator’s technique.
Storage
Store HumiSeal® products between 0 to 35°C in tightly sealed containers, away excessive heat and sunlight. If only partially used, purge the container with dry nitrogen before resealing. Allow the product to equilibrate for 24 hours at room temperature (18 to 32°C) before use.
Caution
Always follow local and national health and safety regulations when applying HumiSeal® conformal coatings. As the solvents in HumiSeal® 1A20R are flammable, avoid use near open flames or sparks. Apply only in well-ventilated areas to prevent inhalation of vapors or spray, and avoid skin and eye contact. Be sure to consult the MSDS/SDS prior to use.
