Krytox GPL 407 is a premium grease from Chemours, specially formulated using a non-melting thickener. Instead of using PTFE like conventional greases, GPL 407 uses silica – an inorganic mineral compound – to significantly improve heat resistance. Thanks to this superior property, Krytox GPL 407 can operate effectively at temperatures up to 399 °C (750 °F), surpassing the usual limits due to evaporation or decomposition of traditional greases.

Key features of Krytox GPL 407
- Krytox GPL 407 is formulated with a non-melting thickener that replaces conventional Krytox™ PTFE with silica – a groundbreaking choice. This change significantly increases the grease’s heat resistance, from a maximum of approximately 316 °C (600 °F) to an upper limit determined by the oil’s vaporization or decomposition temperature.
- Krytox GPL 407 is capable of operating stably at temperatures up to 399 °C (750 °F) and even higher for short periods with proper ventilation. Additionally, proper re-lubrication or re-lubrication can help extend the life of the product.
- Krytox GPL 407 is not recommended to replace the Krytox GPL-200 series in applications below 288–316 °C (550–600 °F), but it significantly expands the usability of fluorinated greases, exceeding the 316 °C (600 °F) limit of traditional PTFE and Teflon™ greases. However, due to its higher oil separation potential compared to PTFE-solid greases, Krytox GPL-407 may not maintain equivalent service life under similar operating conditions.
