Is Fomblin® PFPE Suitable for Oxygen Service Applications?

Fomblin® PFPE fluids are widely recognized and approved for use in oxygen-rich environments. The products have received certification the German Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (BAM) for operation in the presence of oxygen.

In addition, leading organizations such as NASA and the U.S. Navy’s Naval Ship Engineering Center have approved Fomblin® PFPE fluids for liquid oxygen (LOX) applications. Specialized product lines have been developed to meet the stringent requirements of oxygen handling systems:

• Fomblin® LC Series – Designed for the lubrication of oxygen pumps, compressors, and oxygen-handling equipment.

• Fomblin® LOX Series – Formulated for applications requiring both oxygen compatibility and exceptionally low vapor pressure.

How Effective Is Fomblin® PFPE in Corrosion and Rust Protection?

While perfluoropolyether (PFPE) lubricants are renowned for their chemical stability and durability, they naturally offer limited anti-corrosion protection. To address this challenge, Syensqo has developed a specialized range of soluble anti-rust additives designed to enhance the protective capabilities of Fomblin® PFPE lubricants.

The proprietary additives Fomblin® DA305 and Fomblin® DA306/VAC are based on the same advanced technology platform as Fomblin® PFPE oils. Their functional molecular structures enable strong interactions with metal surfaces, forming long-lasting protective layers that help reduce corrosion and rust formation.
